30th September to 4th October

We are fortunate enough to have use of a bach in Ruakaka Beach and try to get up there as often as possible. It is a great 70's bach, basic but has all you need and is only 400m from the beach.

This was a little family trip we had planned to just relax and catch up with family and just get away from normal life.

The journey up took longer than we had planned, due to an incident on the Harbour Bridge in Auckland so we decided to stop for food in Wellsford on the way. It was Friday night so fish and chips seemed to be the way to go. We chose New Garden Takeaways and I have to say we won't be going there again! Not the nicest fish and chips we have had! It was dry and just not tasty...oh well you win some and lose some!

So we had almost 5 days up north and the weather was amazing, we swam in the sea for the first time this Summer, I only lasted 15 mins before I feared losing my feet to frostbite but Marcus and Heidi didn't seem to have this issue! Tess was in my camp and decided sunbathing was a better option! We had lazy mornings and late nights.

Friday was my Mother in Law's birthday so we had a lovely meal at The Bach Cafe at Ruakaka beach. The food was wonderful, plenty of it and friendly service, wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and hopefully will be back.

We had a trip into Whangarei for our compulsory trip to a K Mart and for the boys to check out the scooter parks! Marcus and Garth also watched the Northland versus Taranaki rugby game at Semenoff Stadium, great entertainment and all for the grand price of $20 for both tickets!

We had a great few relaxing days, enjoyed the beach, sea (some of us) some nice walks and quiet time..looking forward to the next trip.

PS We also tried a fried chocolate bar for the first time....ummmmm...not sure I need another one!

About Me

I LOVE travelling and exploring! Any spare time I have you will find me planning our next holiday or day away! I spend hours reading travel books, blogs, websites and Lonely Planets!  Exploring has always been in my blood but really took off when I was 16 and I travelled to Australia from the UK for a 6 week holiday with my family and we camped our way around Australia..I bought my first Lonely Planet  and that was that! After graduating from University I embarked on what would become 2 years of travelling the world, I returned to work in the travel industry and eventually ended up moving to New Zealand where I now live and am a Stay At Home Mum to my 3 wonderful kids!

As well as  travelling overseas we love exploring the other side of our own doorstep...I really want to share our adventures and inspire you to make your own and also give handy tips and trivia, I learn so much from other people I feel I would like to give back.

Enjoy and happy exploring! xx
